Why use these practice exams
Same structure as the exam you will take
ASWB changed the Clinical exam on August 3, 2026: fewer questions, two timed sections and three content areas. A lot of prep material still uses the old layout. Ours uses the new one, so you can practice your pacing on the real shape of the test. Check the format →
Weighted the way the Clinical exam is weighted
Each practice exam follows the 2026 Clinical content outline: 36% Values and Ethics, 32% Assessment and Planning, 32% Intervention and Practice. Ethics now carries the most weight on the ASWB Clinical exam, so it gets the most questions here too.
A rationale for every question
After each question, or at the end if you prefer, you see the best answer and a plain explanation of why. Rationales are written to help you spot the reasoning pattern behind a question, not just memorize an answer.
Harder practice to stretch you
Practice Exams A and B are close to the real exam. Practice Exam C is harder. Practice Exam D is harder still, and some of its questions ask you to put actions in priority order or select every answer that applies, to train the judgment the exam tests.
Original, made by a student
These practice exams are original content, created independently by a student, not a business. They come from someone who knows what preparing for this exam feels like, so the questions, rationales and pacing are made with the test-taker in mind.
Built carefully, checked by someone who passed
Each practice exam is built from study material and current guidelines, including the NASW Code of Ethics, the DSM-5-TR and federal regulations. Every one is then checked by a social worker who has passed the ASWB Clinical exam. How we make them →
Practice your way
Choose feedback after every question or a full report at the end. Flag questions to come back to, jump around the question list, and review only the ones you missed, flagged or skipped. It works on your phone, tablet or computer.

How this fits with other prep
These are practice exams, not a course. There are no video lessons and no tutor. If you are starting from scratch, pair them with a good review book and the NASW Code of Ethics. If you are registered for the ASWB Clinical exam and can afford it, ASWB's own online practice test (US$85) is worth taking too, because it uses retired real exam questions. One sensible plan is to work through our practice exams first, to build pacing and find gaps, and save the official test for the last week or two. We list good study resources on our About page.
Questions people ask
Is this official ASWB material?
No. LCSW Practice Room is an independent site. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) in any way. The site contains no official ASWB questions.
Are these real exam questions?
No. Every question is original. ASWB exam questions are confidential, and we do not use recalled, leaked or copied questions. What we match is the structure: the number of questions, the sections, the content areas and their weighting, and the style of scenario-based questions.
How are the practice exams made?
LCSW Practice Room is original content, created independently by a student, not a business. Our practice exams are written by a team of specialized AI models, working from study material and current guidelines, including the NASW Code of Ethics, the DSM-5-TR and federal regulations. Each question is calibrated for accuracy and difficulty, and matched to the 2026 ASWB Clinical content outline and to the reading level and style of ASWB's published sample questions. Every practice exam is then checked by a social worker who has passed the ASWB Clinical exam. Our aim is to offer the most varied, carefully made unofficial practice questions you can find online.
Will this help me pass?
Practice exams help you learn the format, build pacing and find the content areas you need to study. We cannot promise a result, and nobody honestly can. Your score on our practice exams does not predict your score on the ASWB Clinical exam.
How hard are the practice exams?
Practice Exams A and B are close to the real exam. Practice Exam C is harder, and Practice Exam D is harder still. Expect lower scores on C and D. That is the point.
Why do some questions look different from the real exam?
The real exam is multiple choice with one best answer. Some questions in Practice Exam D ask you to put actions in priority order or select every answer that applies. You will not see these on test day; they train the "what should the social worker do first?" judgment the exam tests.
How is scoring different from the real exam?
On the ASWB Clinical exam, some questions are unscored pretest items, and you will not know which ones. Our practice exams score every question. ASWB reports a pass or fail, and the number of correct answers needed to pass varies slightly between exam versions. We do not publish a "passing score" because we cannot know it for the real exam.
How long do I have access?
6 months from the date you buy. You can retake each practice exam as many times as you like, and any new practice exams we add in that time are included at no extra cost.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. The practice exams work in any up-to-date browser on a phone, tablet or computer. Your progress is saved in the browser you are using, so if you switch devices, a practice exam in progress will not follow you. Your access code works on every device.
What if I lose my access code?
Use "Lost your code?" on the sign-in page and enter the email you used at checkout. We will email you a replacement code.
Can I share my access code?
Please don't. Your purchase is a personal license for one person. Shared codes may be disabled.
Does this cover my state?
The ASWB Clinical exam is the same national exam in every state that uses it. Licensing rules, like supervised hours, approval steps and retake limits, are set by each state board. Check with your board. Our exam guide links to ASWB's board directory.
Can I get a refund?
Yes. If you change your mind for any reason, contact us within 48 hours of buying and we will refund you. If something is technically wrong and we cannot fix it, we will refund you at any point during your access. The full details are in our refund policy.
Is my payment secure?
Payment is handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
