About LCSW Practice Room

LCSW Practice Room sells full-length practice exams for the ASWB Clinical exam, the licensing exam most US states use for clinical social work licenses. That is all we do. We are not ASWB, we are not affiliated with ASWB, and nothing on this site is official ASWB material.

Who it's for

  • Social workers preparing to take the ASWB Clinical exam

for an LCSW or a similar clinical license (LICSW, LCSW-C, LISW-S and others, depending on your state).

  • People retaking the exam

who want fresh, full-length practice in the new 2026 format during the 90-day wait.

  • MSW graduates planning ahead

who want to see what the exam asks before they start supervised hours or board approval.

  • Supervisors and study-group leaders

looking for affordable practice material to recommend.

It is probably not for you if you want a taught course with video lessons, a study schedule or a tutor. Those exist, and some are very good, but this is not one of them.

Who runs it

LCSW Practice Room is a small, independent site. The practice exams are original content, created independently by a student, not a business. It is not a training organization.

How the practice exams are made

The practice exams are original content, created independently by a student, not a business. They are written by a team of specialized AI models, working from study material and current guidelines, including the NASW Code of Ethics, the DSM-5-TR and federal regulations. Each question is calibrated for accuracy and difficulty, and matched to the 2026 ASWB Clinical content outline and to the reading level and style of ASWB's published sample questions. Every practice exam is then checked by a social worker who has passed the ASWB Clinical exam. Our aim is to offer the most varied, carefully made unofficial practice questions you can find online.

Each practice exam has the same structure and content weighting as the ASWB Clinical exam. Some are harder than the real exam, to stretch you, and Practice Exam D also uses training formats, such as putting actions in priority order or selecting every answer that applies, to build the judgment the exam tests.

None of the questions are official ASWB questions, and none are recalled or copied from the ASWB Clinical exam.

Any question bank can contain mistakes, and ours is no exception. If you think a question or rationale is wrong, email [email protected] with the practice exam letter, section and question number. We will check it against the source and correct it if needed.

Study resources we recommend

These are the sources we would use ourselves. Most are free. We have no affiliate links and get nothing if you use them. Every link was checked on October 31, 2026.

Official ASWB pages

Ethics

  • NASW Code of Ethics: free to read online. Values and Ethics is 36% of the Clinical exam, so read the whole Code, more than once. Pay close attention to Standard 1 (responsibilities to clients).
  • NASW ethics resources and NASW practice standards: standards for areas like supervision, technology and clinical practice.

Study guide and further reading

  • Dawn Apgar, Social Work Licensing Clinical Exam Guide (Springer Publishing): the review book many supervisors recommend. Springer lists a 5th edition aligned to the 2026 content outline; check the edition before you buy.
  • The reference list in the ASWB guidebook. ASWB names the textbooks its question writers draw on, including Reamer's Social Work Values and Ethics, Corcoran and Walsh's Clinical Assessment and Diagnosis in Social Work Practice, Miller and Rollnick's Motivational Interviewing and James and Gilliland's Crisis Intervention Strategies. You do not need to read them all; use them to go deeper on your weak areas.
